Licensure Information

ICSW prepares graduates for clinical licensure in multiple states. Download the relevant state-specific documents below to understand requirements and application processes for your state.

Note: ICSW does not currently meet licensure requirements for practice in Colorado, Kentucky, Nevada, and North Carolina. Please verify requirements in your state before enrolling.

Illinois State Licensure Examinations

Candidates for clinical licensure in Illinois must pass one of two nationally recognized examinations administered through Pearson VUE. Both exams are now available throughout the entire month (updated November 7, 2022).
NCE

National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification

A comprehensive exam assessing counseling knowledge and professional competency required for licensure.
NCMHCE

National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination

Evaluates clinical mental health counseling skills and decision-making across simulated case scenarios.

As of November 7, 2022, the NCE and NCMHCE examinations will be administered all month. The examination administration window restrictions have been discontinued.
