Illinois State Licensure Examinations
Candidates for clinical licensure in Illinois must pass one of two nationally recognized examinations administered through Pearson VUE. Both exams are now available throughout the entire month (updated November 7, 2022).
NCE
National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification
A comprehensive exam assessing counseling knowledge and professional competency required for licensure.
NCMHCE
National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination
Evaluates clinical mental health counseling skills and decision-making across simulated case scenarios.

As of November 7, 2022, the NCE and NCMHCE examinations will be administered all month. The examination administration window restrictions have been discontinued.
